If you want to engage in commercial passenger transportation in New Zealand, you need the driver to get a passenger transportation qualification license. The English word for passenger is “Passenger”, so the name of the license that allows you to transport passengers in New Zealand is called “P Endorsements”, which is often referred to as “P License” by the Chinese. Bus drivers, minibus drivers and cab drivers are required to hold a P license in order to transport passengers commercially.
There are two distinctions between P license drivers in New Zealand according to the number of passengers they transport in a single trip:
Small Vehicle Passenger Service, where the vehicle driven including the driver has a maximum of 12 seats and the driver needs:
A valid passenger license P Endorsement.
A valid New Zealand Driver's License Identification Card.
A Class 1 type driving license.
Gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the vehicle being driven must not exceed 6000kg including members.
Large Vehicle Passenger Service where the vehicle being driven has more than 12 seats, the driver will need:
Valid Passenger License P Endorsement.
Driving a vehicle with a GVWR of between 6,000 kg and 18,000 kg including members, the driver needs a Class 2 Driving Permit.
Driving a vehicle with a GVWR of more than 18,000 kg including members requires a Class 4 Driving Permit.
